Xiaomi MIUI 14 Features, List of Eligible Devices, Release Timeline

At a virtual launch event, Xiaomi unveiled the latest version of its Android skin – MIUI 14. As you’d expect, MIUI 14 comes with many new features and performance improvements, including Razor Project, a new MIUI photon engine, a bunch of cool wallpapers, and an improved UI with a richer and more personalized visual experience. Here’s a quick overview of Xiaomi MIUI 14 Features, a List Of Eligible Devices, and a Release Timeline.

Xiaomi MIUI 14 Features

MIUI 14 retains the design aesthetic it introduced last year and doesn’t make any significant changes to the UI. However, compared to the previous edition, the update delivers several performance enhancements and improvements in terms of speed, smoothness, and resource use.

The latest version of MIUI 14 improves system notifications to reduce clutter and memory use and also optimizes third-party apps to run more efficiently and consume less power. Xiaomi also says that MIUI 14 consumes 23% less storage than its predecessor. Here is the complete list of Xiaomi MIUI 14 Features.

MIUI 14 Features Highlights:

Here are some of the features of MIUI 14:

  • Lightweight software of MIUI compared to its previous one.
  • Improved system performance with minimum firmware, low memory usage, and fewer system applications.
  • Refreshed design with larger icons.
  • Received the proper certification from Tell Labs in both privacy and security fields.
  • Xiaomi interconnection makes it easier to switch between devices.
  • Updated XiaoAi AI Assistant 6.0 and new Family account

1) Razor Project (System Improvements)

With Project Razor, the updated MIUI platform focuses on optimizing system space and improving process speed. In addition, it focuses on System Simplification, Application Cleaning, and Notification management.

MIUI 14 Razor Project
  • System Simplification: With system simplification, Xiaomi reduced the size of the system’s firmware and minimized memory consumption. Additionally, it consumes less system memory and comes with only eight pre-installed applications that cannot be uninstalled. This cleans up the user interface and allows faster operations.
  • Application Cleaning: Application cleaning saves just one duplicate file copy and compresses low-frequency programs to clear up space and minimize system resource utilization. Additionally, the application reduces system memory use and implements improvements for third-party apps to help them operate quicker and smoother.
  • Notification Management: You can now turn off permanent notifications with a toggle and turn off persistent notifications with a swipe. Also, new apps will need permission to send notifications.

2) MIUI Photon Engine

MIUI 14 Photon Engine

The MIUI 14 photon engine is built on the Android kernel, allowing third-party app developers to create power-efficient and high-performance apps.

According to the company, MIUI 14 system, as compared to MIUI 13, is 60% smoother and more fluid in high-performance scenarios. The photon engine also improves the performance of third-party apps by 88% and reduces power usage by roughly 22%.

3) Refreshed UI

MIUI 14 Design

MIUI 14 brings improved UI with a richer and more personalized visual experience to Xiaomi phones. The visual changes include new widgets with various shapes and sizes, customizable folders, and large, replaceable icons with four-size options.

There are also virtual pets and plants that are animated on your home screen to add life and spice to it. You can also include interactive elements on your home screens. However, this feature is aimed only at the Chinese market.

4) Improve Security and Privacy

MIUI 14 Image Recognization

On the privacy front, Xiaomi has acquired Tell Labs certification in both privacy and security. In addition, it enhances on-device operations to keep your activities more private.

According to Xiaomi, with the release of MIUI 14, over 30 system scenarios will be able to maintain end-to-end privacy without ever sending any data to the cloud, and all operations will be conducted locally on the device. This includes faster image recognition, text extraction from photos, subtitles for video calls, recording and translation, and more.

5) MIUI Interconnection

MIUI interconnection

Xiaomi is making switching devices easier with a new option in the control center that allows you to drag and drop Xiaomi accessories, such as wireless headphones, across Xiaomi devices. There is also cross-device control. For instance, if you use Xiaomi’s wireless headphones, you can seamlessly switch between a phone and a laptop or tablet. This function eliminates the need to link earphones with other devices.

The connecting speed between devices has dramatically increased. According to the company, the new high-speed interconnection bus has enhanced the speed of earphone connectivity by 50%, the speed of mobile TV connectivity by 12%, and the speed of picture transmission while streaming by 77%.

6) XiaoAi AI Assistant 6.0

XiaoAi AI Assistant 6.0

The digital assistant now learns user patterns and provides shortcuts to payment and transportation codes in advance, explicitly catering to Chinese users. It also offers multi-functional reminders for scheduling, smart home, travel, and more.

The default voice assistant for Xiaomi phones can now be used for more tasks. It can help you translate, scan, and make phone calls, among other things. It can also find important documents, plant species, and more. The AI assistant also helps filter out unwanted calls, like spam.

7) Family Account

MIUI14 introduces new family service features that allow you to share your photos and cloud subscription services with up to nine other persons. You can also share your health tracking data from your smartwatch to help with the health tracking of family members.
